Certified Life Coach, Weight Loss Coach,
   and Personal Trainer

This is my story, plain and simple. My credentials are listed at the end of this page but right now I'd like to tell you how I became a healthier and happier person as I lost 70 pounds.

Like many people, I had gained and lost weight for most of my life -- I was a professional dieter. I knew the ins and outs of every approach on the market and I was often drawn in by the promises of a quick fix from the diet industry.

In 1994, I had agreed to be the maid of honor at my best friend's wedding. I was returning the favor -- she had been the maid of honor at my wedding.  Despite my efforts, I was not able to lose weight for the event. It was a year after the birth of my son and I weighed 220 pounds.

I took a long, honest look in the mirror. I looked awful. I was truly embarrassed and ashamed. Being honest with myself about this proved to be a powerful and important moment for me. It was a very difficult decision but I phoned her to express my regrets.

To my surprise (and, I think, horror), she refused to let me off the hook! She spoke to me of how important our friendship had always been to her. She told me how little my weight meant to her and how attractive she considered me. I will never forget that conversation.

That was a turning point for me. I realized my weight was MY problem alone. No one was going to solve it for me -- the people who truly cared for me didn't even care how much I weighed. They loved me, no matter what. But I wasn't happy and I didn't feel good about myself either. I decided I had to conquer this problem.  I also knew that I had to find a permanent solution. I literally did not think I could face the future feeling the way I did.

What did I do first? I looked back over my history and realized I'd lost the most weight (60 pounds, ten years earlier) with a diet of torture and denial -- no sugar, white flour, alcohol or caffeine.  Unfortunately, I had to live a hermit's life in order to stay on that diet. On top of it all, I had gained the weight back. Now, with a husband and child, I knew that I had to lose weight in a healthier manner -- and I had to lose it permanently. I began to study nutrition.

I also knew that exercise was a key ingredient of weight loss and I had exercised every day I was pregnant. In fact, at the point that I began my quest, I had been doing five aerobics classes a week (for more than a year) and had not lost a single pound. Obviously, I was doing something wrong.  So, I also began to study exercise science.

Before Picture with Baby

Finding a "before" picture wasn't easy.  Like most overweight mothers discover, it's very convenient to hide your widest areas behind the little one!

After a long, exhaustive search, this was the most accurate picture of my weight problem that I could find.

Besides nutrition and exercise science, I already had a background in the healing arts that included meditation, visualization, psychology, various forms of massage and neurolinguistic programming. By using all these tools, and learning many more, I began -- not just to lose weight -- but to burn fat, which is the real object any permanent weight loss program.

Four years later and 70 pounds lighter, friends and colleagues were coming to me for advice. They soon referred their cousins, aunts and uncles.  What began as a part-time dalliance soon turned into a full-time adventure when I received my certification as a Weight Management Consultant from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and then received my certification (CPCC) from the Coaches Training Institute (CTI), the largest and oldest trainer of coaches in the world.  In 2005, I received my accreditation (PCC) from the International Coach Federation (ICF), the worldwide professional organization of coaches.

When I began to work as a personal coach, I began to synthesize my learning and experience losing weight into the Catalyst Weight Loss System. It is an educational program that takes you through the areas you need to address in order to lose weight permanently. Shortly thereafter, I began to teach this approach in class format. Read what participants have to say about the weight management course.

Today, I coach men and women all over the world, have associate coaches trained in my systems, and help many people find a new path in life.  My coaching has branched out to the famous and powerful, and my speaking engagements and training programs have moved into corporate wellness programs across the U.S.

I feel very strongly that, if I can lose weight, build a better attitude towards life and become healthier and more engaged in life, so can you! Take control of your life today and let Catalyst Coaching be your catalyst for change.  I believe everyone can lead a healthier, happier, more fulfilling life!
